Important Things About Submissions:
1) If you want to be paid for your work, you must have a paypal account. We only pay contributors via paypal, which is safe, secure, and provides an accurate accounting record of your transaction. Payment is on acceptance. No fuss, no muss. $5/poem. $50 to a featured poet for 5 poems. 'Cuz they are all that and a bag of chips. Send up to 6 poems, a cover letter with brief bio (3-5 lines), and the paypal email address to send your payment to clearly marked should we accept your offering. Make sure you read the mastiff, to send it to the correct editor. ALL unsolicited submissions go directly to Baine.
2) We acquire exclusive One Time Rights for Electronic Publication, which expire after four months and revert back to the author.
3) We do not accept reprints. UNLESS you will give them to us for free. We retain non-exclusive One Time Rights for Electronic Publication, which expire after four months. Please indicate prior publication credits with your reprint submissions. No more than 5 reprint poems at a time, please.
4) Don't send us crappy poetry. This magazine was created to showcase only the best dark poetry, and we really, really hate to read bad poetry over and over. So much so, that we will probably put a voodoo curse on you for sending it to us to begin with. The only thing we hate more than George W. Bush, is bad poetry.
5) If you are submitting art to be considered, please direct us to a gallery of your work featured online. Artists will be paid $20 for their contribution (hey, it's more than the poets get!) in exchange for One Time Rights for Electronic Publication that expire after one month. We are currently NOT accepting art submissions at this time, but you may query the art-monkey.
From time to time, our readers like to send us some of their photography that is poetry themed or spider-themed. We love to see these and publish them from readers, but we will not pay you for them. Consider these submissions like "Letters to the Editor." Please document these photos with credit to the photographer and/or city/state/region of the world.
6) We also accept video clips of poetry readings, so long as you are the spoken word performer and will give us written permission to use your work. DO NOT send us your clip before sending us a query about it. Always, query first.
7) No simultaneous submissions will be considered. Response time is one to three months. Please do not query before that. We do not 'ping you back' to let you know we have received your submission. An editor will contact you to let you know if we have accepted or rejected your work.
8) We will not critique your work for you. Buck up, wordsmiths, you're poets - you have thick enough skin to simply accept that you won't get $5 for your trip to the cafe (or the dollar draft night at the local bar) today. Better luck next time.
9) Oh, yeah - one more thing: Make it dark.
That is all. No, really. Just make it dark!
Note: Publishers who wish to send review copies of poetry books should drop Geoffrey Goodwin a line.
